Nejc Zorenč / "Lover", "Slut", "Father", “Self-portrait”
Nejc Zorenč (b. 2002, Kranj, Slovenia) is currently studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. His practice, while primarily revolving around painting, extends into the realms of sculpture and public interventions. Zorenč's works are characterized by a sense of visual calamity, offering viewers an experience akin to a "soothing crash." Through his art, he explores the complexities and inherent contradictions of being an artist in the contemporary world. He observes, consumes, and produces notes that are both enthusiastic and ironic, imbued with hope and melancholy, empathy and apathy—a reflection of the artist's own self-reassurances. His kinetic artworks, "Lover," "Slut," and "Father," generate tensions through movement, inducing a sense of instability and anticipation. This calculated unease, coupled with powerful aesthetics, keeps viewers on edge, their senses heightened as they await the unforeseen. With a keen sense of irony, NZ reimagines and reassembles everyday objects, taking them out of their familiar context to create striking visual compositions that challenge perceptions and provoke thought.
