MAKING IT 2024

IG: @Making_it_space

Making It is an international workshop dedicated to nurturing young artistic talent. It is led by renowned Slovenian contemporary artist JAŠA, current resident of Kühlhaus Berlin.

The workshop is rooted in collaborative ethos and driven by the need for practical guidance in contemporary art. The program aims to provide participants with hands-on experience, valuable insights into cultural management and entrepreneurship, and a platform to engage with socio-political issues through artistic expression.

"We are excited to continue the legacy of Making It by offering aspiring artists a dynamic and supportive environment to explore their creativity," says JAŠA, "Through immersive experiences, mentorship, and networking opportunities, we aim to inspire and empower the next generation of artists."

The project kicked off with a public presentation of the program at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts during the renowned Venice Biennale, followed by an open call. After an incredibly challenging selection process, due to the overwhelming number of outstanding applications, sixteen exceptional young artists were chosen to participate.

The first part of the workshop took place over the summer in Koper, where participants immersed themselves in a week-long environment of continuous dialogue and collaboration. The participants presented their project proposals, which they evolved and developed over the course of the week. Transformations and new perspectives were nurtured by ongoing dialogue with mentors. Their artistic progression was complemented by guest lecturers, who covered important segments of cultural management, necessary for every young artist’s successful career development.

The work process continued with online sessions, where participants further developed, discussed and refine their projects, which rapidly took concrete shape and structure.

The second phase of the workshop was All Tomorrow's Songs, a public interdisciplinary group exhibition which unfolded on 8. November 2024 in Kühlhaus Berlin.

All Tomorrow's Songs blends diverse art forms in a cohesive, collaborative presentation that reflects the participants growth as artists and individuals during the workshop. Each work responds to the current socio-political climate, calling for unity and offering insights into the challenges faced by younger generations, striving to promote hope and constructive dialogue rather than mere criticism.
