Amor Smilovic Fazlic / "Clock Tower Brothers"

Amor Smilovic Fazlic / "Clock Tower Brothers" (b. 2003, Rijeka, Croatia) is currently immersed in the study of painting under the guidance of Carlo di Raco and Martino Scavezzon at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts. His practice, deeply rooted in oil painting, seeks to extrapolate and understand the seemingly infinite facets of the relentless stream of images and industrial byproducts that characterize late-stage capitalism. Approaching his work with an archaeological sensibility, Smilovic Fazlic favors excavation and discovery over ideological critique, inviting viewers to connect with his works as artifacts unearthed rather than intentionally created. His sculptural works, where plastic takes on the significant role of "materia signata," exemplify this approach. By working with secondhand and found objects, he creates a space where the juxtaposition of apparent contradictions—private and collective, wrathful and peaceful, civil and military, analog and digital, animate and inanimate, material and transcendent—reveals a deeper interconnectedness.
