Aws Al-Zubaïdy / "The Palestinian Sunbird", “Skeleton”, “Jidar (The Wall)”

Aws Al-Zubaïdy (b. 1993, Bethlem, Palestine) is a Palestinian actor and director based in Verscio, Switzerland. His theater journey began in Palestine, where he graduated from the Drama Academy Ramallah in collaboration with Folkwang University for the Arts in Germany. He further trained in acting at the National Theatre of Tunisia, shaping his growth as both a performer and director. His work has taken him across Palestine, Germany, Jordan, Pakistan, Tunisia, and Switzerland, enriching his artistic approach.

Now finishing his Master’s in theater at Accademia Teatro Dimitri, Al-Zubaïdy focuses on physical theater as a platform for research and cross-cultural exchange. His performance “the Sunbird” explores themes of memory and absence, featuring a painting of the Palestinian Sunbird by his father, symbolizing shared memories. It includes personal elements from his childhood during the Second Intifada, such as a drawing of a game he played with a friend. The separation wall, which increasingly divided Palestinian cities, also appears in his reflections, symbolizing the fragmentation of his past. Through these elements, Al-Zubaïdy invites the audience to reflect on their own experiences of memory and loss, juxtaposing the innocence of youth with the harsh realities of conflict.
